Lexus LS400 1996

Asked by Mar 14, 2019 at 09:51 AM about the 1996 Lexus LS 400

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car has been sitting for 3
years. Not driven. I had the issues
fixed but forgot to change the old
oil. I had to pull over on the side of
the road due to a hard knocking in
my motor. What happened and
what can I do?

1 Answer

After three years of no operation, the old oil clogged up in the oil pathways and probably inside the pump & pickup as well, effectively leaving the engine with too little lubrication. The knock is the destroyed bearings. Cost to rebuild engine exceeds the car's value; engine replacement probably does too. Scrap the car and buy another.
