Drove thru several puddles (unavoidable)

Asked by Cbeczo Jun 24, 2019 at 12:38 PM about the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

There were several bad storms recently and
massive flooding everywhere near where I lived. I
own a 2017 Hyundai elantra and I am also missing
my splash guard. I drove thru a few, semi-deep
puddles and on Friday, my car died. I restarted it
and tried driving it but it wont accelerate all the
way and now my orange check engine light is on.
I've been trying to let it dry out, if possible, and it
starts just fine when I start it up. It just stalls when
driving and I cant get Iit to fully accelerate so I
borrowed one of my friends cars and I've been
driving that. What is going on? I mean, it is done?
Did I totally just F up my car?

If the check engine light is on, you will need to pull the codes from the onboard computer. Auto Zone or other auto parts stores will usually check the computer for codes at no cost.
