was driving lexus 2001 300gs 176k miles on it and it seems i may have run over something though i saw nothing in my view in the road; there was a loud thump or knock and I proceeded to drive 3 miles home no issues no warning light or overheating. except, smoke from perdominant left side of underneath car and smell like oil burning moderately. got home and went into house for 2 minutes came out and HUGE OIL pouring out of underneath car onto drivway and could see the trail all the way down the road that i had been leaving all the way to home. Car drove perfect home. But is there damage done because i drove it like this 3 miles? The oil pan had a hole in it. what happened? Did I run over something or what else would cause this to happen

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

You HAD to run over something, and the oil that leaked may have run onto the exhaust and caused the burning oil smell. Obviously this level of oil loss would have destroyed the engine if you had run it much further, all you can do now is repair the damage and replace the oil, be sure to use high-mileage oil since you're at 176K on the engine.
