Own a 2002 LEXUS300 my mechanic says charcoal canister needs to be replaced for $900.
My recollection is that the charcoal canister was replaced about two years ago when the engine light came on. At first, my mechanic said we should check that the gas cap is tightly closed or replace it. Eventually he said the charcoal canister should be replaced which we did along with the gas cap. Now engine light has returned and mechanic says we need another charcoal canister for about $900 installed. Should we really need to replace after only two years? What else could it be?
I'd get a second opinion, what 4 digit code showed up?
Listen to Tom. Could be purge valve or solenoid for purge valve. or lots of other things, if it is really an EVAP problem. But No... no way would a charcoal canister fail that soon. That's all it is, as the name implies, a jar with charcoal in it. What can go wrong? Not to mention that's WAY too high. $900..? not even
my light came on my car ugh for this mess
