YES - I Disconnected the 12v battery (2017 Kia Optima Hybrid) for about 2 minutes. The clock date/time came back. System reset (remove SD card or press reset button) did NOT work, but disconnecting the battery did.

Find the question "date and time" on this forum, over 100 posts in the past 3 days. In a word it seems to be a satellite problem; perhaps related to an update, perhaps something else. Optima, Soul, Sorento and Niro owners have rung in on this. I got my Niro clock back by hitting the reset button (see picture) with a ballpoint pen. Some have reported success by disconnecting the battery for several minutes - this could prove difficult to do with a hybrid. If the reset button doesn't work, consider turning off the main fusebox switch, located in the center of the fuse box, for 10 minutes. Pulling the MultiMedia fuse for 30 seconds did not fix the problem for me.

My Sedona hasn't had a clock for the last 3 days either

7 people found this helpful.
220

It's definitely a satellite issue according to the dealer and their recommendation was to "wear a watch for a few days." If you have the factory GPS there's a similar problem with some of the settings not being highlighted. The only working setting in the "Radio Settings" is the one marked "GPS." Barry

Was just told by dealer that It's a KIA upgrade issue. Need to bring in car and it takes 1-2 hours. This will be my LAST Kia

I believe that all the clocks in all Kia models have stopped and cannot be reset until Kia takes care of the satellite problem they're dealing with. At least that's what the dealer said. Barry

I'm just a KIA Soul owner ('17+) and have no inside knowledge, BUT since this is affecting only KIA and Hyundai models and NOT all brands ir is most likely a KIA/Hyundai software problem and NOT a problem with the GPS satellites worldwide... Look to KIA/Hyundai for the answer...

Just got mine fixed at the dealership. I have a 2016 Sorento SX and they reset it by inserting the tip of a pen into it for 1-2 seconds. My reset is just above the MAP button by the display.

I have a 2017 Sorento and the date/time stopped displaying sometime late Friday. I just now went out, started the engine (as suggested by someone), popped open the "map cover" (right side, next to CD slot) and pushed on the SD card to eject it. Once the display said that the SD card was missing/removed, I pushed it back in, and waited maybe 60 seconds for the display to refresh. Nothing happened, at first, but when I pushed the "SETUP" button, the date and time display refreshed itself and is now working normally.

Possible cause could be earth’s magnetic plates shifting. It’s also been raising havoc with gps signals as well. If you have noticed (or not) our true north has shifted. Because our clocks are part of a navigational system they possibly got caught up in the glitch.

My clock in my 2014 KIA Soul stopped a few days ago as well. I find it odd that this many people are having the same problem all at the same time. What's going on and is KIA offering to fix this for people? Seems like they should.

I have a 2016 Kia Sedona SXL: I did the following: Start Engine Open SD card slot Remove SD card (you should get a notice on the navigation screen) Once notice appear, reinsert SD card Allow system the reboot Once it reboots, the time and date should now appear

I am traveling in South Carolina this week from NJ. Lost car clock on my 2016 Sedona somewhere in Virginia. Called my Kia dealer back home in NJ and they have heard nothing about this outage. I'm thinking it could be a regional issue. Just saying, plus pulling the SD card is not fixing this for me.

I have a 2017 Kia Sorento. I called Kia customer service, not the helpline. spoke to devin glover .He sent me a pict of the screen and the magic reset button , just above the P in MAP. Use a Flashlight and push a ball point pen into the little hole (reset button) and hold it. UVO pops up on screen.menu button showed up,pushed it.pushed the clock button and the time showed up on the screen. What a great feeling.

Got to https://www.navcen.uscg.gov/pdf/gps/gpsnotices/ GPS_Interference.pdf to look-up military testing schedules for your area. it's off and on to the end of August but not permanent. The timestamp for the clocks in the key is come from the GPS satellite timestamps.

Tried the SD card & pin. Neither worked. FYI, the reset button is the same as pulling the SD card. Both methods reboot the system. The system isn't the problem. It's Kia. I'm in Oregon and the dealer said this is a nationwide problem because Kia did some sort of update that messed everyone up. Not happy. This car has been one issue after another.

It is not a satellite issue. If it were, why would it not effect all GPS devices? Demand KIA fix the problem.

The SD solution.....pull the SD card for 10 seconds, reinsert, with the engine running....it work on my 2016 suol.

Mine disappeared as well last Friday. I was going to check maybe a fuse? If it works, I will post again.

I removed the SD card for a minute and put it back in and it reset the time and date. The display came back on.

370

Here's a solution that worked for me - The reset button, and removing the SD card did not work on my 2017 Kia Optima Hybrid, however... Disconnecting the positive (+) terminal of the 12v battery (on the right side - inside the trunk) - NOT THE HYBRID BATTERY, and leaving it disconnected for a few minutes, then reconnecting it - worked to solve the disappearing clock problem.

2018 Sedona clock display disappeared. Here's how I fixed mine. With the ignition turned off, remove the SD card. Turn the engine on and wait a couple of minutes and then reinstall the SD card. It takes several minutes for the system to read the SD card. Don't interrupt the installation. After a few minutes the system will reboot itself and the clock will be there. NOTE: There is no NAV reset button on my nav system. It must reset when you remove and replace the SD card.

Unplugging and replugging in the SD card fixed the problem of the clock in my 2016 Kia Soul.

40

I've had the same problem since Saturday 17th on my Kia soul. Phoned the dealer this morning who hadn't heard anything. They phoned me back later and said take off the negative lead from the battery, leave it a few minutes then reattach, I did this and it worked straight away I've now got my clock back. I'm in the UK .

I had the same clock problem and followed the same procedure. Remove the SD card and reinsert. go to settings tap clock and wait till it highlights and tap.Did not need to touch reset with pen tip.

I called the Dealer who said that Kia had a Satellite issue over the weekend & are currently working on a software update to fix the problem but had no idea what the timing would be. She told me that she would call me when they could get my 2017 Optima in. After reading what others had tried with success, I first tried pressing the reset button with & without the SD card installed. BTW, the reset button is just above the SD card slot and easily overlooked on my car. Then I tried simply removing the SD card for 2 minutes and then re-installing it. All of the above actions were unsuccessful. So, I then stood on my left foot, while facing east, grabbed my right ear lobe and screamed KIA loudly. I then popped the hood, disconnected the battery ground wire for 5 minutes and then reconnected it ....... I started the car and after all of the electronics refreshed there, for the world to see was the correct time and date.

2016 KIA Soul in Norway. Clock disappeared about a week ago. Thanks to this forum I learned what to do: remove/replace the SD card a couple of times. Clock is now working. Thank you very much! :-)

I have a 2016 Sorento & just tried taking the SD card out for a few seconds with the engine running& it worked! I had to restart the car after replacing it. Thank you! I really missed having my clock the past few days!

Hi, I just reset the time and date in my wife's 2017 Kia Niro. It is a simple fix, just disconnect the negative going to the 12V battery. I waited a few minutes and the date and time are back. Please let me know if this fixed yours.

20

Kia Soul 2016. Started the car. After the initialization screen, the radio was on and half the screen was the map. Removed to SD card, then reset the display by using a paper clip poked into the tiny hole next to the display screen for five seconds. Then I let the display initialize, put the SD card back in. Then went to the map and selected HOME. It started the GPS and the time / date came back on. Good luck

I have a 2017 Kia Sportage. After failing to get the clock back after popping the SD card out and reinserting it WHILE IN MY GARAGE, I got the car outside and did the same thing. Voilà, the date and time came back up on my navigation screen. I had too weak of a signal for it to correct itself while in the garage.

So odd that this happened to so many Kia owners in the last couple of days. I too removed the SD card while driving. Then went to set up, clock, and then clock display to set date and time. Date and time popped back up.

Popped out the SD card for the Nav system and hit the reset button on the CD In button and everything is back to normal!!!

I removed and reinstalled the SD card several times along with hitting the reset button once I change the clock from digital to analogue the clock came back on my Kia Niro 2018

2015 Sedonna SXL, I tried removing the SD Card but it did not come back. However another poster said to unhook battery. I unhooked the Negative side of battery (black side) with a 10mm wrench. Reconnected 10 minutes later and it came back. So wife happy again! :)

60

I talked with a friend who is a Kia Service advisor because I had the same problem. What you need to do in order to reset your clock takes just a few easy steps. Whole your car is running remove the SD card from the slot, press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds, press the navigation button on your console, after it tells you that the SD card is not inserted put the SD card back into the slot. The radio will reset itself and the time will come back. I did this and it worked for me. I tried all the other recommendations with no success.

I have tried everything even what someone just said about the SD card, resetting and pressing the navigation button. I called Kia earlier today and they said to wait a couple days and that it might be part of a recall .

It's not just a Kia problem....lots of blogs about Hyundai as well. I have a 2017 Hyundai Tuscon and I'm in Canada. SD card fix works!

SD card did the trick for my 2015 Kia Soul.

For those of you having trouble, make sure your car is outside where you have satellite signal. Hitting the Reset button worked for me - while the car was running.

This was my clock a few days ago. I fixed it manually and then it disappeared all together. Taking out my SD worked.

1 people found this helpful.

It’s obviously a problem with Kia in general judging by how many post there are, I’ve tried taking the SD cars out and tried the reset button and neither has worked

I went to settings and selected clock. Then I stuck a pin in the reset hole and it started working again.

on monday 8/19/19 i thought i was going to be late to work, my clock was about 12 hours and 20 minutes off. then saw it said PM and the date was wrong as well. tried toggling the GPS mode for the clock and it did nothing. tuesday the clock completely disappeared and the clock options were grayed out. this morning i pulled the SD card and it works again. thanks everyone!

10

Called the dealer--they said on front of radio is a small dot (reset). Take paperclip and push into the opening for second or two. This will reset the display. I have not tried it yet, but he assured me it will work. Good Luck

I did a combination of suggestions. With the motor running, I held the reset button, pulled and re-seated the SD card, let the reset button up and the Date and Time came back. You may not need to do all that but that is what finally worked for me. I have a 2019 Niro Touring. 08/20/2019

I just reached out to my local Kia dealer and they say "It has something to do with an update for the navigation they are working on it and should have something done within the week."

Finnaly got my Sedona clock back up. I had originally tried the SD card out and back in. It didn't work, engine on or off, didn't matter! Well I went for a drive yesterday and the whole 30min I just kept pulling it out, letting sit for a min, pushed it back in, let it reset. Nothing until the end of my drive when I finally got it back!

Thanks to all for the solutions - on my 2016 Soul I pressed the reset several times with no effect - but then I gave up and started looking for something in the manual - when I looked up the clock was working again! So the key is to be patient! It took about 3 minutes I estimate.

I called our dealership today and they said they have no idea how to fix it, but once they learn how they will send letters out and schedule us for an appt... I tried the pulling the SD card trick and that didnt work for me.. any other options

20

I tried hitting the reset button with a pen twice; it didn't restore the missing clock. But removing the SD card (in covered SD opening right above the -:- blank clock display) for a minute, with the engine running and display on, did. After reinserting the card, the clock display didn't return immediately, so I went into Setup, System Info, and hit "Update." There was no update to do so I hit "Cancel" and the clock display came on right then. That might have been a coincidence and just pulling and reinserting the SD card did the trick.

Took the SD card out. Started car, put card back in. Went to settings, clock, turn on gps. Whala, date and time back on.

Appears all have occurred around the same time. We have a 2014 Soul and noticed Sunday August 18, 2019 that the date was not displayed. Let it go until Tuesday making an appointment with the dealer. Last night wide says the dayr and time is being displayed. Did none of the things mentioned in the posts. Cancelling appointment with dealer. I agree with many who state KIA should be sending out notices. Sounds to be more a radio software issue...maybe a true north issue. ;)

I have a 2014 Kia Soul. I just tried all of these techniques and the only one that worked for me was disconnecting the negative post on the battery and giving it about five minutes before I reconnected it. Since then it has been working like a charm!

2018 Cadenza Premium. Clock not working. Reset did nothing! Will try removing SD card etc.

2106 Soul - pulling card did not work. pushing reset for 10 seconds with car OFF worked!

Yes this issue started for me days ago. First it was just the time and date being severely off. Then I set it manually. Now it’s just completely gone... so odd this affected so many people. Resetting using the reset button did nothing. I’ve taken out my SD card a few times and nothing. I’ll keep trying though.

Guru1Z956, your method worked to fix the issue for me. Thanks!

I pulled my sd card out of my 16 sorento while display was on and reinserted it and date and time came back on

10

I took out my SD card, then used a ballpoint pen to hit the reset button (next to the CD in button) , then reinserted the sd card while the car was running in my driveway. It took two times but it’s back and working!!!! 2016 Kia Sedona

Same issue here. I’ll try to reset in am. Disappeared 4 days ago.

Pulled my SD card for 30 seconds and then reinstalled. Date and time came back. Such a simple issue caused a lot of frustration. Anchorage alaska.

Remove so card then re set console using paper clip or pin then after re insert so card that combo worked for me thanks everyone for tips

The clock in my 2017 Sedona stopped working on Fri. 8/16. It stated working again around 5:30pm on 8/23, a week later. Looks like they fixed the satellite connection issue.

Sedona 2016 SXL. Time display went out about a week ago. Today started the engine; popped SD card; waited about 30 seconds; pushed the SD card back in; pressed Setup button on front panel; screen went black; waited until all messages from UVO about "resetting" on the screen disappeared; in about 1 minute the time appeared on the screen along with everything else. All the other info and settings remained the same. Didn't need to use reset hole.

I should have waited for a few more hours. I re-update my Soul this morning and the clock works again. It took me over 30 minutes to install the update and left the car running during that process.

I just popped out the SD card before starting the car and the clock worked. I will attempt and update later today when it cools down. Thanks for all these great post!

We had the same problem. I just took a ball point pen to reset the system and the time came back on!

I pushed the reset button twice on my 2018 Sedona and it came back. The reset in my vehicle is on the top right of the component to the right of CD-IN. Hope this helps someone!!

Fixed it! 2017 Sportage EX clock quit last week. Turned car on, let UVO cycle up. I pulled the NAVI SD card and waited 15 seconds. I put the card back in and waited for NAVI to cycle up. Went to settings, clock, and found clock settings we're no longer greyed out. Went home and date/time back and correct. Let's hope it holds.

Tried pulling the SD card twice, that didn't work. Found out where the reset button on my 2017 Sedona was from one of the other posts, (right-side of the CD-IN button), took about four tries but did get back clock.

I resolved the problem by doing this: Press the reset button next to the volume control of the radio; immediately turn the car off and wait one minute. Restart the car and the clock reappeared, at least for me.

This worked for me... 2017 Kia Soul - with car running, remove and reinsert SD car. Nav system will reboot. Clock reappears about 30 seconds after.

On my 2015 Sonata, I pressed and held the reset button for about 2 seconds. That worked for me.

I have a '15 Kia Optima and realized one morning the clock had gone away. It has been a week or two now, so I am glad I found this forum and that is wasn't just my car this happened to. I am going to try the reset button that others suggested and hope that works!

10

I have a '15 Sedona and the only thing that worked was removing the negative lead on the battery for a few minutes. I tried everything else, every combination of suggestions posted above, and as a last attempt tried the battery. SUCCESS!!

The same thing happened on my Car so I tried replacing the SD card and pushed the reset button but The problem has not solved. Finally, I remove the multimedia-related fuse for 5 minutes, LOL!!! the problem was solved. As I know, when navigation related fuses are removed the memory seems to be fully initialized.

Followed instructions to remove SD card, replaced it and after a few seconds the time is displayed again! 2017 sorrento. Thank you! (Dealer claims it is a satellite issue.)

Samoe issue here - lost clock a few days ago. Tried the SD card reset and it did not solve the issue but the ballpoint pen in the reset button did - or maybe the SD card trick just takes some time. 2018 Sedona

Here's the fix. I called my local dealer and the assistant service manager forwarded the instructions he got from corporate. The SECOND solution (#2) worked for me. 1. Vehicle must be outside and receiving a good GPS signal. 2. With vehicle running and unit fully booted, remove the SD card. 3. Allow the error message about the SD card to complete. 4. Gently press the reset button (a pin or pen tip will work). 5. Allow unit to fully reboot. 6. Reinstall SD card and allow system to restart. 7. Once restarted and GPS location acquisition has been achieved, the date and time should display. *Before the date & time can appear, remember to push "accept" for the safety message. Hope this helps.

My clock display went out around the 18th of August also. I will try some of the suggestions above to see if they work.

I removed and re-inserted the SD card and the clock came back. The engine has to be running and the radio turned off when you do this.

10

Popped out the SD card for a minute and it worked.

popping out SD map card for 15 seconds. All back to normal!

I have a 2015 Kia Soul and I done everything. I have used the reset button on the console. I have removed and reinserted the SD card many times. I have disconnected the negative battery terminal and waited for over 30 mins before reconnecting it. Nothing has worked. I still don't have a clock display.

1 people found this helpful.

2016 Sorento LX owner here. Mine went out in August. After 2 weeks, I tried removing the fuse for the display and reinstalling after 10-15 seconds. Nothing changed. I tried removing the SD card and reinstalling it. Nothing changed. Yesterday, I decided to Google the problem and found this forum—thank God! I tried both the reset button (first time for this) and the SD CARD again and this time it worked! IMPORTANT: ENGINE MUST BE ON DURING THE RESET/SD CARD FOR THESE TO WORK!! WOO-HOO!! It’s been difficult not having the clock. I’m not sure which one makes sense— a KIA system-wide upgrade or the satellite interference. I don’t care—just glad it’s over.

Took sd card out and it worked for me, 14 Soul

10

The clock's been out for the past 3-4 weeks. Just when I was thinking of troubleshooting it, it randomly came back on its own. Didn't do anything. Figure it's probably satellite related.
