Personally, I'd try to save some money first and then buy a car you can afford till you get your credit in good standing.

Talk to your financial institution or bank. If your buying a car from a dealership, they can set you up as well with their bank. You'll probably get a loan, depending on your income and how much you are borrowing. You'll just pay a higher interest rate due to your credit.

You didn't get bad credit because you paid your bills on time. You got bad credit because you paid late, if at all. There was a reason. I'm just pointing out that that besides the payment there are additional experience.

There are tons of options if your credit isn't good... some financial institutions may do it... but most likely you'll be dealing with a sub-prime lender... you're going to find yourself in a catch 22 because you don't want to have your credit pulled a lot of times looking to get funded because that will drop your score even further... what I would recommend is that you deal with one of the subprime lenders (you can Google and get tons, or if you'd like to write me I can give you a contact - just don't want to sound like I am pushing anyone... once you get the car funded with them, your rate will be high, but after 6 months if you have been making payments, you stend a better chance for getting another loan and then you can refinanced your car to get a lower rate for the remainder of the term...
