when i start the car i cant change the gear from park

so i have to turn it off then turn the ignition one notch and put it in nuetrul then start it then i am able to put it in drive

Sounds like the neutral start switch.

It could also be the brake light switch up by your brake pedal mount. If the spring let go in the switch it won't come out of park. Switches are only around $20
