When I put gas in my 03 Kia optima willrev then sputter and die.

Asked by Jun 12, 2015 at 10:55 AM about the 2003 Kia Optima

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Even when I don't fill it. It takes 3-4 times to get it to start again. Please tell me this is not an expensive fix. Has 140 thousand miles,
also how many o2 sensors on it? I was told they need replaced but one guy said it only has 2 another tells me 4.

Thank you

Your wish is my command. I will do what you asked and tell you that this is not an expensive repair. Now let's hope this is true. Have you ever changed your fuel filter? Performed an engine tune up? These can be possible causes for the issue that you are experiencing. As far as the o2 sensors go, is your check engine light on? If you have a 4 cylinder, then you have 2 oxygen sensors. If you have the V6 model then their are 4, 2 upstream and 2 downstream.

You also may want to check the air filter add a bottle if fuel injector cleaner to gas tank to help clean injectors and if you use the low octane gas try the middle grade octane gas well help clean throttle body. If throttle body is extremely dirty clean with throttle body cleaner spray.
