Need instructions on how to replace ignition switch on 2005 Kia Amanti

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced my ignition switch with a new one but now the car won't crank. It will turn over but not crank. What should I do now?

Maybe your switch is bad and it keeps on the battery circuit. Try a new switch or check how much volt there is on your battery

The 2005 Amanti with leather seats (not cloth or vinyl) has an immobilation module that senses the key. New keys (that come with the ignition switch have a chip in them that will allow the car to start once it is programmed into the car using a 6 digit code and the key. This is not a Do It Yourself operation. Call an automotive locksmith and he can code the car to the key. Hope this helps

Additionally there are 2 different sets the locksmith must use depending on what time of the year the car was made. An old 6 digit pin and a new 6 digit pin. If the old one does not work - the new one should. However this can only be tried 3 times or a lock out occurs. Once locked out the key must be in the "on" position for at least 1 hour for the car to reset so the key can be matched back up.
