Can the subaru crosstrek handle the weight?
I want to buy a car that will fit my two thule hullavators and two pungo 120 kayaks - about
180 lbs. that is 7 feet or less in height when fully loaded. The subaru crosstrek fits the
height restriction but can it handle the weight? Any other suggestions? I am also a skier.
Most vehicles are rated at 200 pounds cargo load in addition to passengers. Except, of course, trucks and vans which are designed for hauling. Each passenger space (seat) is rated at 150 pounds. That standard was put in place beginning with the 1968 models and is still in effect today. So a 6 passenger car is rated at 900 pounds for all 6 passengers plus an additional 200 pounds of cargo. You'll have to check the tire pressure specs for a fully loaded vehicle and adjust the tire pressures accordingly. For this specific vehicle check out the sales brochure and read the specifications section carefully. I'm sure you'll be ok with the 180 pounds of cargo you're planning on carrying. HTH. -Jim
