What could be the most common cause?

I have a 1995 Jeep Cherokee, not Grand, AT 4x4 & 4.0L with 230k miles. I have excessive play in my driveshaft & when I rock it back & forth there's a clunking in the rear end.

sounds like the u-joints are warn out
