How long will it last?

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

My dad wants to buy a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Sport.  It has 164,000 miles on it, and it is being sold for $3,000. What's the life expectancy of this well-maintained Jeep?

Is it an I-6 or a V-8? I think that the 6 is going to have greater longevity. I would say your two weakest points that you would have to worry about would be axles and your transmission. If they are fine, then you should be fine. Test drive it, and get it checked out by a mechanic before purchase, and if all looks good, it should last for a while longer.

I agree with the last two guys. Jeeps are known for their longevity as long as they are take well care of. Take the test drive and go to the mechanic. when those two things check out...make an offer for the car. You might be able save a few hundred.

Yeah it should go for a long time yet, basically my whole family has jeeps, my bro had a 1996 I-6 with well over 500 000 kms on it, i dunno how many miles that would be, I had 2 1998's with v8 i beat the shit out of my second one trying to kill it cuz i wanted a car, I never could and it had 375 000 kms on it (I wrecked the 1st one or else i would still have it) My bro also has a 1998 5.9 also with over 300 000 kms and its still goin strong. My other bro has an 02 with a 4.7. I have to say they are the most durable vehicles I have ever drivin, they can take a beating, so if you're planning on taking it easy, it will last a very long time yet
