I have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee lerado its shows a code 0171 and says system to lean bank 1 what does that mean

think you mean P0171 and you have a lean condition on bank one of the catalytic converter~ think you need a tune-up~

Also check for vacuum leak(s) or an exhaust manifold leak. HTH. -Jim

if there are no leaks in the exhaust system it is usually the upstream 02 sensor
