2014 Subaru Outback bulbs

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Has anyone noticed that supporters or
minimizers of the bulbs of 2014 Subaru’s are
dealers????  The consumer is the one that is
complaining.  EVERY time I go for
maintenance I am told I need at least 2 bulbs
replaced.  The staff act surprised every time. I
ask if other consumers notice it.  Each time I
can predict the answer :  there are 13 lights on
the car and we used to replace them as a pair
because they burn out as a pair.  Now we
change them individually.  What????   I have
owned vehicles for 40 years. I can’t even
recall changing or replacing bulbs at this rate.
In fact, I can’t recall bulbs from the past
because it was so rare.  I read some reviews
supporting and they say “it’s $5 and easy to
change”.  That’s not true.  Another lie from a
car sales man.

I understand your frustration, as I've had to get at those dastardly low beams hundreds of times for clients. I'm now suggesting eliminating the dustcaps behind the bulbs so as to keep temps lower, using a bit of silicone to secure the connectors once in place. Can't improve the rears, but they're much easier to deal with, and indeed a $5 problem...that recurs! Your unsupported statistical analysis may have rigor, but I know a LOT of Subie mechanics who swear at this problem too. Maybe find a dealership for more knowledgable (or honest) salespeople? Have a fine New Year. Ern TSG/B

My 15 Forester has only needed two new head light bulbs in 100,000 miles. Maybe I am lucky?

I have a 2014 Outback Subaru. I lost count with the number of times I have had to replace front and back lights. The way the car is designed you have to take off the front bumper to get to the lights. It is not an easy fix. If Advance Auto can't help me then I have to go to a repair shop. The dealer is too expensive.
