Is there anything that should be looked at before replacing a transmission?

Asked by Aug 18, 2015 at 09:39 PM about the 1989 Ford E-150

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Tranny seems to be having a hard time going from 1st to 2nd gear....once it's going it seems fine.  Before we spend money replacing the transmission, is there anything else that could be causing it?  Fluids have been recently changed.

Check the TV cable. The cable that controls the shift that attaches to the underside of the throttle body. The bushing on the throttle body blade dry rots and falls out. Also inspect the motor mounts, they could be cracked causing a driveline alignment issue and shifting problem.
