How do I know if I screwed up my transmission?

Asked by Oct 15, 2016 at 04:10 PM about the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi,
Today, my car randomly stalled right as I was crossing a main road with cars
coming. Luckily I was able to get into the correct lane before it happened,
but I went into a panic, and put my car in park. I couldn't have been going
more than 5 mph when I did it. However, it made a loud devastating noise
and kind of jerked. Luckily, I was able to start it up again and drive home
safely. However, I'm worried I effed up my transmission since I put it in park
while the car was still in motion. Obviously I have to take my car to the shop
to fix the stalling issue, but what signs should I look for if I messed up my
transmission?

I'm a college student that's clueless about cars and really upset about this
situation. Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you!

Trans should be ok, have the shop inspect it while it's in the shop for piece of mind.
