If it came off inside the vehicle near drivers left knee (which i have heard happens now and then), i would guess somebody has been too rough on the little plastic handle...but it can be replaced. If it came off at the hood latch in the engine bay that will be tricky to reach....but possible with a 10mm socket and about 24" of extension. You will need to remove the front bumper undercowling ( or...I'd just drill a couple holes in it since nobody will see them and it will save a lot of time). You can slide the 10MM socket all the way up across the front of the radiator to remove the 2 bolts that attatch the lockpin portion of the latch system to the actual underside of the hood.
