My engine light and my wash fluid light both came on at the same time? But why?

Coincidence. One has nothing to do with the other. The only other thing may be you have a short to ground on that leg of the circuit behind the instrument cluster. Unplug the washer fluid level sensor at the washer fluid tank, if you can get to it. If the light goes out the wiring is good. If the light stays on you have a short. With the check engine light, have the computer scanned. If you have no trouble codes you have a short in the bulb circuit. HTH. -Jim
