Is the shifting of gears when the engine is running accomplished with grinding.

Asked by Oct 20, 2015 at 08:43 PM about the 1996 Ford Ranger

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The clutch slave is bad.  I think it needs replacing or bleeding. I am concerned
that shifting into gear does not prevent the truck from moving. The truck is a
1996 ford ranger.

I did tell you about the slave cylinder, of course the truck will move when you shift into gear. What is it you are asking? Your questions are not clear...

Ok, I will guess again, the gears will grind going into first, after that you do what is called speed shifting. Your slave cylinder or pressure plate needs to be replaced.

And if you are asking if it is good to grind your gears, no it is not. That is the purpose of the clutch.

So the engine is turned off and you put it in gear and it will still move. If that is correct then the clutch is completely shot, when you replace it make sure the flywheel is turned and you replace the clutch slave cylinder.
