2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee won't start

Asked by edsilkworth Apr 02, 2017 at 09:27 PM about the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The Jeep won't start intermittently.  The battery and starter have been
checked by the dealer and they can't figure out why it won't start.  When the
Jeep decides not to start it displays a check engine light.  But when the
computer is checked there aren't any fault codes

I have a honda with the same problem and you have to test these things when they happen . I found it was a weak spark . If I wait 30 minutes it will start right up and go anywhere or you can break out the tools and have at it . You may have ignition relays , exciters , amplifiers and what not ! Intermediate problems are the worst . Let us know what happens .

What was the outcome? Mine is doing the same. 2012 diesel.. Press start or use the key fob in start button hole and it just does nothing.

How much did that cost? & your car hasn’t gave you any problems since?

Hi It requires a new tipm or fix the old one. A good auto electrician should be able to fix it... If not your jeep dealer may also be able to.. Mine was repaired as some one previously had done a below standard repair. It cost me a bi over 2 grand but that included new key, starter module behind button. And a new steering lock module. ( they say they replaced them but who knows?). It all started with the car not starting sometimes and gradually got worse until it would not start at all. Mine is 2012 eco diesel. Has not happened again and it was repaired 3-4 months ago.

Search 'vertical visions'. They have a great range of solutions for the jeep dilemma with tipm problems.
