my ford taurus dies when idling, what could be the problem

when putting in gear i have to keep giving it gas. there is a loud grinding of metal
sound.after i drive it i can put it in park and it wont die but still dies putting in gear and
idling in gear. i have made sure the oil, gas and coolant are ok as well as the belts being
fine and changed the cilanoid

Metal grinding isn't good. Find out what is making that noise and I think you have your problem. Might your torque convertor or maybe the exhaust is loose and rusted?

Yes I sounds like the torque converter in the transmission is staying locked in or broken motor mounts letting the engine slam back and forth.
