Why does it take so long for my 2011
Volkswagen CC to heat up? If it's below 20
outside I can start my car let it idle in my
driveway for 20 minutes the heat gauge
doesn't move and the heater doesn't blow
hot air, just tempered air until I drive 10
minutes up the road.
Thermostat stuck half way or all the way open.
As firebird suggests, change the thermostat.
Some small cars just have this problem when it gets really cold even if everything is working as it should. I am going to suggest that you have the thermostat checked at a shop, it might be your problem but don't be surprised if they can't find anything wrong. I have had a number of small cars that when it got that cold you had to put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator just to make enough heat to get the computer to go into closed loop. If this is a real concern for you I would suggest you install a block heater and plug it in at night.
