Bad Misfire

Asked by Aimee Sep 30, 2017 at 08:11 PM about the 2011 Volkswagen Tiguan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car started running bad & we
took it 2 Advanced Auto. They put
it on the handheld & it showed 23
issues. After dropping my
husband off @ work I went 2 start
driving & it would barely get past
15mph & that was with my has
petal 2 the floor. He just changed
the cam shaft sensor, plus & coil
packs. What else could it B? Cuz
we gotta get it up & running

It is broke down @ R friends house. Will they let us borrow the handheld? I know we can borrow or rent tools

Doubt they loan that out, but you can ask, and you can always buy one for about 100 bux. If the auto parts store is too steep try Wallmart, Amazon, they sell them too. Then google the codes. 23 DTCs is a lot, so you have a series of issues going on. It also sounds from your description you were driving in "limp mode", the computer limits engine revs and speed to prevent any damage to the engine. So don't keep driving it, get it fixed first.

Go online and get a MS300 from Autel. These are good little cheap units that have great reviews. I bought one for all my vehicles. Flashing engine light is not good. It means that if you keep driving it without fixing it that you can ruin your catalytic converter. Big $$$

Take it to VW - they will get to the bottom of it. Sometimes one small thing can lead to several sensors detecting related faults. VW has the full diagnostic tools to help you get it back in tip top shape. The Tiguan is an excellent vehicle with an engine that has been refined over decades of use in 6 generations of car. That is why the sensor feedback is so comprehensive. This may sound lame, but as the owner of 4 VW's I'm confident it is a repairable mechanical issue.

if you have a laptop you can scan your car. go to amazon and search for the rosstech dongal for your modal of car. you can pick it up for about 15-40$ and it will scan your car better then any OBD2 scanner ever can as it is a program speciaficly designed to scan your car.
