I have a 2006 BMW X3. The coolant sensor is lighting up in absence of a problem. What's the problem?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced the sensor a month ago and it was fine for about 3 weeks and is now lighting up again.  It's intermittent, but on more often now.  Each time I've checked the coolant, it's been full and no evidence of a problem.  I've not been able to link the light coming on with speed, incline, engine warm or otherwise; only that it's never on when I start the engine. I suppose it could be a defective sensor but could it be something else?  Thanks!

As you said faulty sensor,if car doe,s not over heat, all so check the wire,s from sensor, may be bad, giving you the signal.

That new sensor itself could be faulty, parts that are not oem replacment parts have a higher failure rate.
