How easy is it for the valves to get bent?

Aftewr about 6 months with my new 'Used' BMW 325i my timing belt snapped. After putting it back on I noticed that my crank was somewhat stuck.  After a little more investigation, I found three of the valves bent.

I believe those are zero tolerence heads so when the belt snap the valve went into the piston...

Interference engine. Shannon is correct, there is not enough room for the piston to rise with a valve frozen open and not collide...somethin's gotta give.
