Not a car guy, inherited a 1985 BMW 318i, was wondering if the car had a choke lever inside the cabin?

Asked by Daniel Oct 30, 2016 at 10:58 AM about the 1985 BMW 3 Series

Question type: General

Car was not starting until the head of the carburetor was removed, and my
friend held the choke levers down with his two fingers while I started it. It
seems like this has to be done every time, and is clearly annoying. Is there
a way I can do this from inside the car?

Is it a vacuum choke or electric? Check for any broken or missing or leaking connections.

It is also possible that the car has a manual choke. Look for a knob near the steering wheel that you can pull out to operate the choke. Don't forget to push it in once the car is running!
