Why does passenger air bag sometimes indicate "off" when a passenger is seated?
When my wife, who weighs about 100 pounds, is seated in the front passenger seat, the air bag often indicates "off." She sometimes places two five pound dumb bells on the seat. Sometimes this solves the problem. Sometimes not. What is causing the problem? What can be done about it.
There are a couple TSB's or Technical Service Bulletins about the Airbag light for your vehicle. Some mention a new harness. Talk to a service manager at your local dealership and see if your car is on the service list. I hope they can help you.
The air bag and the operating system should be under warranty. It may be the sensor under the seat is not functioning all the time, or a lose connection.
