2000 Hyundai Elantra overcharging alt?
We have replaced the coil pack in this car 2 times (3 counting today) since May. What
would cause the coil pack to fry?
Wrong spark plugs, resistance in wiring too high, bad grounds and excessive voltage. What is your alternators voltage output? It should range between 13.8 to 14.7 volts.
We checked the voltage output and it was 13.7
That is at minimum, better have the system tested to see if it responds to loads, I haven't seen any coils go away due to under voltage but there is always a first time.
so what should I be testing? Would the voltage regulator spike and cook the coil without blowing a fuse?
Take it to a shop you trust and have it tested tell them what you found. You may have more than just 1 problem, ie grounding failures, corrosion in the wires.
