Am I being duped..

Asked by Dec 05, 2014 at 02:06 PM about the 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an 02 Santa Fe .. Every time I put gas
in the car won't start.. I have to hold the gas
down.. I am being told that I needed a purge
valve solenoid by the dealer.  Is this
possible or is it the fuel pump and they just
don't want to fix it?

I had mis-read your question and posted a knee-jerk answer. Thought you meant it won't accept gas..but still, it's possible. The purge valve solenoid, if it does not open/close the valve, the EVAP charcoal canister can become saturated with liquid gasoline. That is a less expensive job than a fuel pump, if you needed a pump they would certainly tell you

I understand that a fuel pump is more expensive. . This is a repair they have to make at their cost as it has been that way since I purchased the vehicle.. As well as a clunk in the front end when I turn my wheel and they tell me it is the strut mount...

Is it an extended warranty?

I had the same problem with mine. I replace the purge valve and haven't had any problems since.
