Question type: General

We have friend who is adamant that manually
shifting his c250 into neutral at any pause in city
driving .... traffic light, congestion etc ... then
shifting back into drive is the best practices for both
motor and transmission .... Guidance ????

Back in the early days of automatics this helped to keep the tranny temps down if it was really hot outside. Today's transmissions you do not have to do that, coolers are better, fluids are more refined and can take a lot more heat than the old stuff, and with computer controls entering the scene it is just not necessary even in stop and go traffic. Of course there are exceptions, like sitting for extended periods, say an accident or waiting for a long train, then it is best to shut the whole car down, this saves fuel and keeps heat buildup down.
