should a cvt transmission fail at 92,000 miles on an automatic? is this a defect???

92K is not uncommon to have some transmission issues. Some go out much earlier, some later. If it was a defect, it would have failed soon after the car was new. I don't like CVT transmissions due to the fact that they have to be replaced vs repaired/rebuilt. Good luck!
