I am shopping for a used Prius, but most of them have close to 100k miles or more. Is it wise to consider buying a car with that many miles?

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I need a good economical used car.  I cannot afford a new auto.  I like the Prius
because of the mpg, but do not know if I should even consider a car with 100k
miles or more.

You really shouldn't have an issue with the battery, they shiuld last at least 300,000 miles. If you want see if you csn purchase a warranty on the battery, below is a good read on the battery...

Batteries are very expensive, A good Toyota Corolla size car with a gas burner is very economical and 300k miles is what they are designed to go with normal maintenance.

I would buy something other than a hybrid for true economy. Hybrids get good mileage but are not as economical as other cars due to the high up front cost. Used ones will be worse due to battery replacement costs and you don't get any tax credits either.

Lets start by saying the High Voltage Battery will NOT last 300k miles. Most of the cars we repair are around 150k. The Hybrid Battery will cost you anywhere from 890 to 2200 for a good rebuild product with warranty. Check out www.ExclusivelyHybrid.com If you have any other questions feel free to contact me.
