votage regulator issues??

Asked by Oct 19, 2008 at 02:32 PM about the 1999 Honda Passport

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

had the battery and the alternator checked to see why all lights flash unless you are accelerating

What do you mean 'all lights' and is the flashing regular or irregular? If it's all your electric systems and the flashing is fairly irregular, check for loose or bad power connections. Determining if it's a bad regulator is simple enough, check the voltage difference across the positive terminal and the ground with the car at idle and off. You should have at least an increase of .6 volts when at idle. Granted I believe the regulator is internal to the alternator on these vehicles...
