Does a 2002 Honda Civic EX have a timing belt or timing chain? A belt is not metal & outside the block / a chain is metal and inside. @ 145,000 miles shld it be changed for $600-$800 ?

And yes, it should be changed. $600-$800 is a good price. My ex girlfriend had hers done years ago and they charged over a grand. But they also did the water pump and tension pulleys as well.

A timing belt should be changed every 6 years or 60,000 miles. Whichever comes first. If you don't know if it was done at 120,000 miles do it now. That is a good price and about one third the cost of replacing the head if the timing belt breaks. So you'll definitely be ahead of the game. HTH. -Jim
