On my dashboard, I have a small square pushbutton (inoperative) and a broken knob (between the two vent opening knobs) that lacks a head.  What do these two controls do?

A picture would help if you can post one up....Between the two vent opening knobs is a little light that is supposed to shine down on the heater controls, not another knob, you should be able to move it a little from left to right and up and down.
