When first starting my 2005 element and backing up there is a whining sound. Only appears to happen when the Honda is cold

When the Honda element  AWD is cold and I back up there is a whining noise. Once the
Element is warm there doesn't appear to be noise

Does the noise change pitch with engine speed or vehicle speed? Where does it seem to be coming from? Front, back, side, inside, or outside? -Jim
