Can the dash clocks on a 2008 Renault Twingo II be replaced with second hand ones?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I would like to know if I can simply swap the electronic dash in my car with a second
hand one from another vehicle of the same make and model? Or do I need to get a new
one which could be very expensive. I have an intermittent fault with the airbag light in
the dash. Had it diagnosed and the problem is in the dash which cant be fixed!! I have
heard that a weak Battery or Alternator can cause airbag fault lights to come on if the
voltage is too low, is this true? Thanks for any help.

Yes you can swap your dash with a second-hand one however you will need to take note of the recorded mileage on your original dash and write in the service book with the date as you will not be able to correct the mileage on a second-hand unit unless you know a dodgy geezer who can 'clock' it. Renault's are well known for crap electrics, usual faults for airbag light coming on are the under seat connector blocks which are usually remedied by removing the connector block and soldering the wires together, but seek advice as getting it wrong will be costly.

Thanks Paul, the fault did turn out to be the airbag in the drivers seat, as you said. It was faulty in two places, where the wires plug in to the air bag itself. Also where you said under the seat the connecting block needed to be cut off and the wires soldered together. All sorted now I'm very pleased I did not have to swap the dash.
