Tensioner ford ranger sport

I had a new surpentine belt put on 1 yr and 4
months ago... and now the tensioner is bad..
Would there have been signs back then of the
tensioner of going bad

it was over a year ago. no one can see the future on something failing.

The tensioner could have gone bad in the intervening time. Not that hard to swap out.
