it was its own company i believe. its pretty much a Ferrari without the nice engine it has a ford 351 in it. Production was from 1971-1991 it was replaced by the Detomaso Mangusta and the word pantera means panther in Italian in case you didn't know lol
Shakerzone exposed a Clint Hartley scam that involved a fake damage claim. With the recession running on high here in Cal that happens alot lately. Loved the red 66 Nova sold to NY in March Panteras rule!!
A correction. The Pantera replaced the Mangusta. The Pantera was sold through Ford-Lincoln_mercury dealers in N.America until the mid-70's (not exactly sure about the year)
The Pantera was produced by DeTomaso in Italy. http://www.detomaso.it/gb/index.html The beauty was that unlike temperamental cars like Ferrari and Lamborghini, it had a big ole' Ford 351 for the engine, so it broke down less and if it did, you could get it easily repaired for not nearly as much.

Pantera's stopped being sent to America in 1974, and we owned one of the last ones imported, however in subsequent years, owners imported them from Europe. Euro models do not have a bumpe rin the front.. Rob's right, sold at Ford-Lincoln dealers. The Ford 351 Cleveland was a perfect match for this Italian exotic, and in it's day, would stomp on any Ferrari or Lamborghini. The 1974 Pantera GTS was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the fastest production car on earth.
The early Pantera's, known as Pre-L's had small chrome "Nerf" bumpers on front and rear. When the L models came out in late 1972 they had added the smog equipment to the engine and also the full width black "federal" bumpers. As to when they stopped importing to the USA..... When the Lincoln Mercury/Ford importing ceased there was a firm in Blue Mounds, WI that imported them in for a few years. Seems they did so until about 1978 or 1980 as I recall.
