What does the TRAC CNTL light mean?

I was driving my vehicle when the TRAC CNTL light illuminated.  What does this mean?

You either inadvertently hit the traction control button on the dash or steering column or the traction control system has something wrong with it. Bad sensors, broken wire ect

Ehat means lights on trac control in a crown vic 1998 how can i remove this
