how do i find what transmission is in my 1999 mustang
i have a 1999 mustang 3.8 v6 automatic on the hog head there is a 7 8 and a S stamped on it . is that the type of tranny or are the numbers located somewhere else on it. was thinkin of buying another one but need to know what to look for before buying. dont want to buy wrong one
It should be a 4R70W unless someone has been messing around with it. There should also be a tag back by the tailshaft housing bolts.
on the tail it has RF-F3LP-7A040-AA basic-6 46 W stamped on it
That looks like a Ford engineering number for the tailshaft housing, look for a metal tag on the tranny, it will either be under a bolt or inlaid in the main case.
on the side of the transmission behind the shift cable bracket it is stamped RF-F7SP-7006-AA
found tag PKE-AJ1 XR3P-7000-AA 56978 9J
