Key reader

Asked by Mar 17, 2019 at 02:05 AM about the 2001 Ford Bantam

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Is the key reader just a carrier of the signal or does
it get programming also like the key and epu

1 Answer

It depends what model Bantam. With the earlier Rocam model Bantams the key reader is the bridge between the Key and the Computer Box. The signal is taken from the transponder in the key, 'bounces' off the Lock Barrel steel ring and is read by the key reader. From ther the key reader sends the signal to the Computer Box. With the Newer Euro 2 Computer Box, The Keys are coded to the key reader first, once this is done they are coded to the Computer box and the vehicle will start.
