How hard is it to change a rear axle beam on a 1985 olds cutlass ceira

Not terrible, but you should consider getting a Haynes manual for the torque specs, bearing pre-loads, etc.

Are you talking about the rear track bar which goes behind the the axle itself? It is mounted diagonally, from one end of the axle to the other.
