My car suddenly lost power

Asked by Oct 09, 2015 at 09:13 AM about the 2000 Ford Taurus

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

While driving on cruise control at 65 MPH  my car suddenly lost power on
highway at night.  I pulled off to side of road and shut off engine.  Tried to
restart but engine light and dead battery icon came on and car would not
start.  Had it towed to dealer for service that night.  The Ford service said it
started right up the next morning?  Any ideas what happened.  They are
checking the car right now.

Sounds like the typical Ford ignition module failure, it gets hot, goes thermally open and shuts the car down, cools off and it works until it heats up again then it shuts down. There should be an IDM failure code in the computer memory.
