1990 Dodge Dakota

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had my battery and alternator tested and
they said the battery was bad as well as
the voltage regulator. So I bought a new
regulator and battery only to realize that
the regulator was just not there. I have the
repair manual and it says that the regulator
is bolted to the firewall. So I drive to
Autozone (not very far from my house) and
asked them to take a look at it. Come to
find out that when my truck was made they
put a '91 Dakota electronics control
module in my '90 Dakota, so the part I
need to replace went from about $20 to
$200 because the voltage regulator is part
of this control module and I'm wondering if
there's any way I can put the matching
voltage regulator in my truck without
Having to replace the control module, or if
buying the 200 dollar replacement is the
best way to go
