92 Dodge Ramcharger -Help-

Asked by Oct 30, 2016 at 01:33 PM about the 1992 Dodge Ramcharger

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So my ramcharger idles fine on a cold start, but
when it warms up half way it starts idling higher
And when it's hot, it's freakin screamin. I go from 0
to 50 in about 50 seconds...without my foot on the
peddal. I slid into my friends car just on wet grass
because my front breaks locked up but my rear
wheels kept pushing. And when I put it in drive, it
slams hard into gear, and also in reverse (hopefully
that isn't a bad tranny)... any help would be
awesome! We're coming into winter and I don't feel
comfortable driving like this in MT.

Sounds like a vacuum leak. When things heat up they expand. This may be causing a mounting surface gasket, such as the throttle body mounting gasket to be opening up where the throttle body bolts onto the intake manifold. Also, try unplugging the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. If you then have a very low idle (which you should) the IAC is bad or something is going on with the wiring going to it. BTW, your truck isn't safe to drive like this. Please, for your safety and the safety of others, don't drive it until it's fixed! HTH. -Jim
