Question about my boyfriend's Car

Asked by Feb 11, 2015 at 07:27 PM about the 2000 Ford Escort

Question type: General

My boyfriend's ford escort 2000 car
has this squeling problem. When not
pressing on the gas pedal it makes
the sound but when you are stepping
on the gas pedal, it stops. Not only
that, whenever he makes a left turn,
his car seems to slow down and as
you press the gas pedal while
turning, his gears get stuck. So to be
able to keep making the left turn, he
has to let go of the gas pedal. AND if
he steps on his breaks hard, his car
dies.. So many problems with the
car. But by any chance do any of you
guys know what the problems are??

Check the serpentine belt, belt tensioner and all the pulleys. I suspect one of the pulleys is binding causing the noise and drag on the engine. Check the belt tensioner and the PS pump first.
