My ford saphire 1989 auto - when I start the car in the morning its missing like crazy till the engine is warm then its idling normal and the car takes very long to change gears

Sounds like either worn valve guide seals are allowing oil to seep and drip onto the spark plugs or fuel is dripping down the intake and onto the spark plugs. When either happens it temporarily fouls the plugs until the oil or fuel burns off then they start firing again. One other possibility, if you have a carburetor, is the choke pull off is malfunctioning. When cold the choke is closed. The choke pull off opens up the choke plate just enough so the engine will run until it begins warming up and the thermostatic coil begins opening up the choke the rest of the way. HTH. -Jim
