Car cranks over but won't start

Asked by Jan 11, 2017 at 02:15 PM about the 1997 Dodge Stratus

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I was driving around 50
kilometers I noticed the battery
light came on. Stop car turned it
back on, battery light went out and
this happened three times that
day. Now the next day I started it
in the morning noticed the light
was on and it bogged until it
warms up. Even trying to pedal it
didn't make a difference. After
three minutes warming up it was
good. Later on that day I tried to
start it and now it just cranks over
but doesn't start. Battery is 12 4
cranking 14.6. So I guess the
batteries okay and starter
alternator. Check the serpentine
belt. Timing belt seems fine turns
normal speed. Now it got very cold
the last couple days and now it's
raining like crazy. I do have a
distributor cap. Any suggestions.
I'm going to put my rain gear on
check for spark look at cap, fuses
and relays. What all should I check
in for.

Check for spark if you can, almost sounds like a ignition control module. And there is a problem with the alternator.
