Why is my 2000 dodge intrepid not starting?

I changed the battery & put it in a new starter but when I try to start it it it makes a click sound and then all the
lights in the car goes off. It wont even crank/turn over and I dont know what else it could be someone please help
me!!!

Sounds like your not getting a good connection, on one of the battery terminals

could this be whats wrong with my car because it was doing fine and then my mom took my battery cable off an it touched the side of the car and sparked an now it wont crank can anyone tell me what it might be????
